PE Class For Olders

Teacher: Nicole Hicks


Target Age Group: 9-14 years old | Class Duration: 45 minutes weekly


Course Description:

This Physical Education class is designed to help students develop confidence, coordination, teamwork, and a lifelong enjoyment of movement. Students participate in games, fitness challenges, sports skills, and outdoor activities that promote physical health while building character, communication, and leadership. The emphasis is on effort, improvement, and encouraging one another—not competition.


Course Objective: 

Course Objectives • Improve overall fitness, strength, endurance, and flexibility. • Develop coordination, balance, agility, and body awareness. • Learn teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership skills. • Build confidence through movement and personal achievement. • Practice healthy habits that support lifelong wellness. • Discover that physical activity can be fun and rewarding.


Class Expectations:

 Come dressed to move safely • Participate to the best of your ability• Encourage classmates • Respect equipment and outdoor spaces • Demonstrate good sportsmanship • Have fun while challenging yourself


Typical Class Format  :

5–10 min: Warm-up & dynamic stretching 

• 10–15 min: Skill instruction 

• 20–25 min: Games and activities

 • 5–10 min: Cool down & stretching

 • 5 min: Character lesson and reflection

Class Topics

Term 1

Week 1- Welcome to PE

Activities: Icebreakers, team-building games, fitness baseline, stretching basics. Character Focus: Building confidence

Week 2 - Agility & Speed

Activities: Ladder drills, cone races, shuttle runs, relays. 

Character Focus: Giving your best effort

Week 3 - Balance & Coordination

Activities: Obstacle course, balance challenges, partner activities. 

Character Focus: Persistence

Week 4 - Teamwork Challenge

Activities: Cooperative games and group challenges. 

Character Focus: Communication

Week 5 - Throwing & Catching

Activities: Accuracy games, partner skills, team competitions. 

Character Focus: Encouragement

Week 6 - Running Games

Activities: Capture the Flag, Sharks & Minnows, tag games. 

Character Focus: Positive attitude

Week 7 - Strength Day

Activities: Bodyweight circuits and partner workouts. 

Character Focus: Mental toughness

Week 8 - Endurance Challenge

Activities: Fitness stations, relays, cardio games. 

Character Focus: Never giving up


Term 2 Class Topics

Topics will be determined for Term 2 later in the year

Class 9 Kickball Skills

Activities: Kicking, fielding, gameplay. 

Character Focus: Teamwork

Class 10 Soccer Fundamentals

Activities: Dribbling, passing, small games. 

Character Focus: Supporting teammates

Class 11 Volleyball Basics

Activities: Passing, serving, cooperative play.

 Character Focus: Communication

Class 12: Outdoor Adventure

Activities: Kicking, fielding, gameplay. 

Character Focus: Teamwork

Class 13: Fitness Olympics

Activities: Jumping, throwing, speed and obstacle events. 

Character Focus: Personal improvement

Class 14: Choice Day

Activities: Student-selected favorite activities. 

Character Focus: Responsibility

Class 15: Team Tournament

Activities: Rotating cooperative team games. 

Character Focus: Respect & sportsmanship

Class 16: Celebration Day

Activities: Favorite games, relays, reflection, certificates. 

Character Focus: Celebrating growth
